Some love stories start with a swipe. Theirs began with scrubs.
Alexandra Flemington and Nick Weiand, both medical students at Vanderbilt, found love in the middle of one of life’s busiest, most demanding seasons—med school. From anatomy labs to night shifts, their connection only grew stronger. And on a golden spring day at Lanier Islands, they made it official: Dr. & Dr. Weiand.
The Couple
Alexandra is the kind of bride who lights up a room—poised, genuine, and warm. Nick is her perfect counterpart: calm under pressure, kind to the core, and completely smitten with her. Together, they’re a power couple in the making (and not just because they can quote Grey’s Anatomy and actually understand it).
The Ceremony
The ceremony took place by the lake, the water shimmering behind them as they exchanged personal vows—equal parts romantic and funny. Alexandra dealt with the whipping wind famously just gathering up her veil and wrapping up in it like a blanket.
Their officiant, a close friend, blended humor and heart perfectly—joking that while they had plenty of clinical experience, “marriage is the real long-term residency.”
The Details
Lanier Islands provided the perfect mix of serenity and celebration. Florals in white, ivory, and soft blush echoed spring’s gentle palette. Touches of eucalyptus and soft candlelight gave the reception an intimate, elegant feel. Poppy’s is such a great resource and always does the perfect touches.
There were signature drinks on the bar: Doctor’s Orders (aka a Margarita) & Mr. Man (aka a Manhattan) that were a big hit.
Lighting was provided by Eventworks Rentals, and was the perfect touch of cafe lighting inside the reception tent.
The Celebration
After some phenomenal toasting from Alexandra’s father, Nick’s Best Man and then Alexandra’s sister brought home the show. Having a little sister as your Maid of Honor is always a special moment, and watching her sis get emotional, Alexandra had to stand with her as she wrapped up with an iconic closer, ‘May your night shifts be short, and your beach houses be spacious!’
Alexandra and Nick’s first dance was what opened up the dance floor with a classic photo moment of a dip in front of the marquee sign of their names. DJ Bill, with Mike Jones Entertainment put on a spectacular show that kept the dance floor packed all the way to sparklers!
Final Thoughts
Their love was born in between exams and rotations, but it’s built for a lifetime. With their hearts set on service and a life of healing, Alexandra and Nick now begin a brand new chapter—one with patient charts and pager beeps, yes—but mostly with shared laughter, unwavering support, and a forever kind of love.
Congratulations to the new Dr. & Dr. Weiand! 💕
